A Wallpaper Engine Alternative For Mac.

Wallpaper Engine is a Windows app sold on Steam, and it doesn’t run natively on macOS. Glyphscape is made for the Mac and takes a different approach: live, generated glyph art instead of video files.

A Different Approach

Glyphscape does not play back recorded clips. Each scene is drawn on your Mac as it runs, from glyphs, dots, and pixels, so it keeps changing instead of looping a video file. You shape the result by changing its colors, texture, and motion.

What Comes With Glyphscape

  • 40 animated scenes across four families: Flow, Spectral, Cities, and Figures.
  • 5 free scenes that never expire.
  • With Full, your own photos, animated as ASCII, dots, pixels, or dither.
  • A different look on each display, or one setup across your whole desk.
  • Saved profiles, so you can return to a look you like.

Made For The Mac

Glyphscape is built for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 13 or later. It lives in your menu bar, adapts to your MacBook display and external monitors, and keeps separate settings for each screen.

It is also built to be light. Choose 12, 24, or 30 FPS. Playback is capped on battery and in Low Power Mode, and a wallpaper pauses while it is fully hidden. You can pause the animation at any time.

Free And Full

Free includes Flow, Spectral, Interference, Neon Alley, and Chrome Study, with color and motion controls and saved profiles. Full costs $5 once and adds the remaining scenes, image imports, and the full studio. One key covers up to 3 Macs and every display connected to them.

Try It In Your Browser

Before you download anything, open the Playground. Every scene runs live there, and you can try one of your own photos. Your image stays in the browser.
